U.S. Department of Commerce Works to Strengthen Commercial Ties with Nigeria through New MOU and Joint Statement on Shared Digital Priorities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

This week, the U.S. Department of Commerce and Nigeria’s Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry and Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy demonstrated their commitment to enhancing commercial ties and helping to facilitate increased bilateral trade and investment through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), as well as a joint statement outlining new avenues of commercial cooperation and affirming shared priorities on the digital economy.

“With the largest population and largest democracy in Africa, Nigeria is an essential partner for the United States,” said Secretary Raimondo. “At the U.S. Department of Commerce, we are committed to working hand-in-hand with our Nigerian Government colleagues to foster deeper commercial cooperation that helps promote inclusive economic growth, fosters innovation, and creates jobs in both our countries.”

In Washington on Thursday, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and Nigeria's Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Dr. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, signed an MOU to establish the U.S.-Nigeria Commercial and Investment Partnership.
