COMMERCE LEGISLATIVE STRATEGY GROUP

SECTION 1. PURPOSE.

This Order establishes and prescribes the functions of the Commerce Legislative Strategy Group. Amendment 1 dated, July 6, 1989 changes the structure and chairmanship of the Legislative Strategy Group.

SECTION 2. STATUS.

The Commerce Legislative Strategy Group supports the Secretary of Commerce in administering Congressional matters of major importance to the Department. This DOO formalizes its establishment and charter as a Department unit.

SECTION 3. ORGANIZATION.

".01 Regular membership of the Commerce Legislative Strategy Group shall consist of the following officials or their designees:

a. Counsellor to the Secretary;

b. Secretary's Chief of Staff;

c. Associate Deputy Secretary;

d. General Counsel;

e. Assistant Secretary for Administration; and

f. Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs; and

g. Other officials as determined by the Chair.

.02 The Commerce Legislative Strategy Group will convene on a regular basis, as needed. As required by specific agenda items, additional representatives from Departmental offices and operating units will participate in certain meetings. The Counsellor to the Secretary will chair meetings.

SECTION 4. FUNCTIONS.

.01 The primary goal of the Commerce Legislative Strategy Group is to develop and administer the implementation of strategies to improve all aspects of the Department's dealings and relationships with the Congress on matters of major importance.

.02 Activities of the Commerce Legislative Strategy Group shall be carried out by, or in coordination with, the Departmental Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs. They will include, but not be limited to:

a. Coordinating policy and devising strategy related to proposed and pending legislation of particular significance to the Department;

b. Ensuring complete, accurate, and timely responses to Congressional inquiries regarding major policy and program matters; and

c. Ensuring that all major Congressional requirements and concerns, not otherwise covered above, are effectively coordinated and systematically addressed. Signed by: Secretary of Commerce
