M. Jeff Beatrice

Jeff Beatrice is the Acting Chief Counsel for the Office of Chief Counsel for Industry and Security (OCC/IS). In support of BIS’s mission, attorneys in OCC/IS manage a diverse portfolio involving, for example, responsibility for pursuing export control enforcement cases before Administrative Law Judges, support to the Department of Justice in a variety of litigation matters, and legal advice on a range of proposed rules and legislation. 

Prior to joining OCC/IS, Mr. Beatrice served in the Department of Justice for 17 years, including over 15 years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. As a line attorney, and later as Senior Counsel, Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime and Narcotics Trafficking Section, Deputy Chief of the National Security Section, and Special Counsel to the U.S. Attorney for National Security, Mr. Beatrice prosecuted and supervised cases involving violent crimes, economic crimes, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, espionage, terrorism, terrorist financing, and export control violations. 

More recently, Mr. Beatrice was General Counsel for Anti-Money Laundering at a large U.S.-based international financial institution and a partner in a U.S. based international law firm, where he focused his practice on government enforcement, international regulation and compliance, and anti-money laundering compliance matters. 

Mr. Beatrice received his B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School.
