Alex Fried

Alex Fried is an Attorney with the Office of the Chief Counsel for International Commerce (OCCIC) in the U.S. Department of Commerce. Alex advises ITA’s Global Markets division, which includes the U.S. Commercial Service. He specializes in forced labor, standards, and finance and professional services. He also assists in matters relating to appellate litigation, the Trade Agreement Secretariat, and North America and ASEAN regions.

Prior to joining OCCIC, Alex worked as an attorney for the Chief Counsel for Trade Enforcement and Compliance in the Department of Commerce. There, Alex advised teams on antidumping and countervailing duty investigations and reviews and defended many of the Department of Commerce’s decisions before the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. During law school, Alex worked for the Chief Judge of the Court of International Trade, the Senate Rules Committee, Department of State, and the export controls and sanctions practice in FTI Consulting.  Alex earned his law degree from the Temple University Beasley School of Law in the great city of Philadelphia. During law school Alex participated in both the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and the International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition where he won several awards. Alex is also proud to have worked on a pro bono Third Circuit Court of Appeals immigration case.

Alex earned his Bachelor of Arts in economics and international relations from The George Washington University. Alex is originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania and is a massive fan of NBC’s hit sitcom, The Office. In his free time, Alex enjoys cooking, and exploring Washington D.C. while running.
