About The LAB

  • The LAB's learn, assess, build continuum which covers those three building blocks in a continuous loop while describing their functions.

The above infographic shares our Learn, Assess, and Build continuum which illustrates how we work with acquisition teams and other offices throughout the Department.

Please click here to read about The LAB's core functions. Below we share our Vision, Mission, and Values statements:

Vision

We envision a federal procurement culture built on continuous LEARNing, thorough ASSESSment, and strategic BUILDing—creating an agile environment that delivers innovative solutions, exceptional public value, and anticipates tomorrow's challenges.

Mission

Driving innovation in federal acquisition by embracing best practices, common sense contracting, and streamlining our acquisition lifecycle to be more efficient while maintaining standards of accountability and cultivating partnerships that create dynamic solutions responsive to our stakeholders' evolving needs.

Values

We deliver excellence through transparent, innovative partnerships. Committed to collaboration, we prioritize integrity and efficiency, ensuring every action builds trust and drives shared success.

The Innovation Council

The Innovation Council consists of Bureau Innovation Advocates (BIAs) from each contracting entity within the Department, along with representatives from the Office of Acquisition Management and selected program managers. This council convenes at least monthly to share best practices, exchange lessons learned, and foster open dialogue within the Department in a secure environment for collaboration.

The BIAs serve as a liaison for their organization and as an extension of The LAB, they disseminate information as needed within their Bureau. A long-term objective for each BIA is to function as an internal advocate to further the movement of acquisition innovation. This includes the BIA becoming a de facto coach and mentor their staff and to their Bureau's acquisition teams, aiming to streamline the entire acquisition and procurement process, reduce burden and time, and ensure that the outcomes are mission focused.
