The Department of Commerce’s Safety Policy program resides within the immediate office of the Office of Facilities and Environmental Quality.

This program is responsible for the following:

• Provide management and direction for Departmental safety programs and policies.
• Develop, issue, and maintain adequate safety program guidelines, advise and assist bureaus and operating units on safety program requirements.
• Conduct safety assessments and evaluations of bureaus and operating units on a periodic basis and monitor the implementation of corrective actions and compliance with E.O. 12196, 29 CFR 1960, and DAO 209-4
• Prepare DOC’s annual workplace injury and illness report and coordinate the annual Bureau of Labor Statistics report.
• Assist in performing safety training need assessments.

Functions such as workplace compensation and health and wellness programs are managed through the Office of Human Resource Management.
